What gives you direction in life?

Sometimes when I’m standing outside, surrounded by nature with nothing but trees, sky, and open space, I find myself literally trying to figure out my direction—north, south, east, or west. I’ll turn my head, look for the sun, and think, “Which way am I even facing right now?” It happens almost every time. Meanwhile, Snatcher will casually point and say, “That’s east,” like it’s the most obvious thing in the world. And somehow… he’s always right.

He has this built-in sense of direction that amazes me. It’s like he can feel the earth turning beneath his feet. I usually laugh and say, “Well, I’ll just follow you then,” but in truth, it’s a great picture of how we both navigate life.

Even though Snatcher has a strong natural sense of direction, he—just like me—leans on something much deeper. We both lean on God. Because physical direction is one thing, but knowing which way to go in life? That’s something only the Lord can guide us through.

God’s Word is our compass. It speaks truth when the world tries to confuse us. It gives us peace when emotions get overwhelming. It realigns us when we drift off course. Whether it’s a major life decision or simply how to respond with love and grace during a hard moment, we turn to God for direction—every single time.

As a woman, wife, and mother, I don’t always have the answers. I’ve faced moments where I felt unsure of what to do next or how to balance all the responsibilities laid before me. But time and time again, God reminds me that I don’t have to walk this road alone. He promises to lead me. And as long as I stay close to Him, I won’t be lost.

Snatcher and I often talk about how grateful we are for God’s presence in our life. We both recognize that even though one of us may find the trail or the highway more easily, it’s our faith that really keeps us on track. And that shared belief strengthens our bond—it keeps us walking side by side, not just in marriage, but in our calling.

And nature? That’s where I feel closest to God. The stillness, the beauty, the sound of the wind through the trees—it quiets my heart and helps me hear His voice more clearly. It’s where I feel grounded again, reminded of who I am and whose I am.

So while I might still ask, “Which way is west?” when we’re standing under a wide-open sky, I’m never truly lost. Because my heart has already found its true direction.

And His name is Jesus Christ.
