What’s your favorite thing to cook?
There’s just something about good food that tastes even better when it’s cooked outdoors. Maybe it’s the fresh air, maybe it’s the slower pace, or maybe it’s just being hungry after a day of exploring. Whatever the reason, some of our favorite meals are the ones we cook while camping — simple, hearty food that hits the spot after a long day outside.
We love meals that are easy to cook but still feel like a treat. Things like skillet breakfasts loaded with eggs, turkey sausage, potatoes, and peppers. Or burgers and grilled chicken cooked over the fire with foil-pack veggies on the side. And of course, nothing beats winding down the evening with something warm and comforting like chili or a one-pot pasta dish while sitting under the stars.
Unfortunately, we haven’t been able to enjoy much outdoor cooking lately. Snow and ice have kept us close to home, and camping trips have had to wait for better weather. Cabin fever definitely starts to set in when adventure plans get put on hold.
So instead, we made the best of it and bundled up to make a careful trip to our local grocery store to stock up. Getting there wasn’t exactly easy — icy roads and freezing temperatures made the trip an adventure of its own. But now we’re ready with plenty of food to cook at home while we wait for camping season to open back up.
The good news is that cooking these same favorite meals at home still brings a little bit of that camping spirit inside. We keep it simple, cook together, and dream about the next place we’ll set up camp once the weather clears.
If you’d like to see how our icy grocery run went and catch up on everything we’ve been dealing with lately, be sure to check out the video below where we share the whole story.
Until the roads clear and we’re back around the campfire, we’ll keep cooking, planning, and looking forward to wherever we land next.
