By Nikki & Snatcher

Nikki: Hey there, Outside Gang! Welcome back to the blog. If you’ve been following us on YouTube, you know that our journey hasn’t just been about building a van—it’s been about building a life of freedom, faith, and a whole lot of sawdust.

Snatcher: That’s right. From the early days of tent camping to building out “Glo,” our 2023 Dodge Ram ProMaster, we’ve documented every win, every “make God laugh” moment, and every mile traveled. We’ve compiled our entire journey into one massive playlist, and today, we’re breaking down every single step for you.

The Humble Beginnings: Tent Camping & Outdoor Cooking

Nikki: Long before we had four walls and a roof on wheels, we had a tent and a dream. Our journey really started with testing our limits in the great outdoors. One of our favorite early memories was the UCO Gear Outdoor Cooking Challenge.

Snatcher: Man, that challenge was real! We were using the UCO Flatpack Grill and just enjoying the simplicity of a fire and good food. It taught us that you don’t need a luxury kitchen to have a 5-star experience. That mindset carried over when we started building the galley in Glo.

In this video, we ditch the modern conveniences and go back to basics. If you want to see how we handled the heat (and the hunger), check it out!

Building “Glo”: The DIY Van Conversion Phases

Snatcher: Then came the big one. We got the ProMaster and the real work began. I remember the day we decided to call her “Glo.” It was all about the light and the journey ahead. But man, fitting a square cabinet into a curved van wall? That’ll test your patience!

1. The Luxury Galley for Under $200

Nikki: This is one of our proudest moments. Everyone thinks you need $50,000 to build a van. We built our luxury kitchen galley using 90% scrap wood! It’s got a stainless steel sink, a refrigerator housing, and a beautiful countertop.

Snatcher: The key was using plus nuts and rivet nuts to make sure everything stayed put while we’re bouncing down those backroads. It’s budget, it’s beautiful, and it works.

2. The Ceiling & The “Furring Strip” Saga

Nikki: I spent so many hours staining those natural wood panels. We wanted Glo to feel like a home, not a tin can.

Snatcher: While Nikki was staining, I was wrestling with the MaxxAir fan and A/C framing. Getting those furring strips perfectly aligned is the foundation of the whole interior look. If the ceiling is wonky, the whole van feels wonky.

3. The DIY Love Seat & The “Will It Fit?” Moment

Nikki: I remember painting that custom love seat and just praying it would actually fit the space we left. It’s our little nook for editing and relaxing.

Snatcher: That was a milestone. Once the furniture starts going in, it stops looking like a construction zone and starts looking like a home on wheels.

The Reality Checks: When Van Life Gets Real

Nikki: We don’t just show the pretty sunsets. We show the struggle. Our “Story Time” video about when van life goes wrong is one of our most honest conversations.

Snatcher: And don’t forget the plumbing! I had this whole plan for the water pump and the gray tanks, and… well, the title of the video says it all: “You Want to Make God Laugh, Make a Plan.” We had to pivot, learn, and try again. That’s the “Outside Gang” way.

Testing the Gear: Diesel Heaters & Survival

Snatcher: You can’t travel year-round without heat. We put the Hcalory Diesel Heater to a real-world test inside Glo. We checked the noise, the CO levels, and the heat output before we ever took it into the mountains.

Nikki: Safety is huge for us. We want to make sure the products we use (and the ones we recommend to you in our Amazon store) are actually going to keep us safe and warm when the temperature drops.

Why We Do This: Faith, Freedom, and the #OutsideGang

Nikki: People ask us why we leave the comfort of four walls. It’s about the journey. “Wherever We Land” isn’t just a name; it’s a philosophy. We trust that God is guiding our steps (and our wheels).

Snatcher: Whether we’re building a closet against a curved wall (which was a nightmare, by the way!) or finally finishing our van bed, every project is a step toward freedom. We want to inspire you to start your own project, no matter how much “scrap wood” you’re starting with.

Top 5 Lessons We’ve Learned So Far:

  1. Measurements lie: Always double-check, then check again.
  2. Budget doesn’t mean cheap: You can have luxury on a dime if you’re willing to do the work.
  3. Community is everything: The #OutsideGang keeps us going.
  4. Failure is a teacher: If the plumbing leaks, you just learned a new way NOT to do it.
  5. Faith is the engine: We don’t know where we’ll land, but we know we’re taken care of.

Join the Journey!

We’re not done yet! We still have cabinets, plumbing fixes, and miles of road ahead of us. Make sure you subscribe to the channel and follow the playlist to see where we land next.
