What is a word you feel that too many people use?

Is it just us, or has the word “awesome” become the verbal equivalent of a black hole, sucking all the linguistic nuance and creativity out of our conversations? We get it, things are cool, great, fantastic, even mind-blowing. But let’s give our vocabularies a break and explore some alternatives, shall we?

Once upon a time, “awesome” was reserved for truly extraordinary events, like discovering a new planet or inventing a self-cleaning toilet. Now, it’s used to describe everything from a decent cup of coffee to a mildly amusing cat video. It’s like calling every single day a “miracle” – it loses its impact, doesn’t it?

We’re not suggesting we ban the word entirely. After all, there’s nothing quite like the feeling of pure, unadulterated awesomeness. But let’s agree to use it sparingly. We can start by creating a support group for those who have suffered emotional trauma from excessive “awesome” usage. Or perhaps we could develop a new language, devoid of this overused adjective. We could call it “Awesome-free” or “Adjectival Nirvana”.

So, the next time you’re about to unleash an “awesome” on the world, pause for a moment. Is there a more descriptive, imaginative, or hilarious word out there? Let’s challenge ourselves to be linguistic explorers, venturing beyond the confines of this overused adverbial wasteland. Our brains (and our conversational partners) will thank us.

This is an example of how our degraded education system is destroying literacy in our country. There is a lack of precision that is embarrassing and annoying to me. It interferes with effective communication and understanding.

Thanks for your post. It was AWESOME!

I am finding that many people do not like hearing that as a response to something they say.
