How do you celebrate holidays?

We recently made a significant change in our family’s life: we stopped celebrating traditional holidays. Instead, we’ve chosen to focus solely on the biblical celebrations we find in the King James Version (KJV) of the Bible.

This decision wasn’t made lightly. For years, we had participated in the usual holiday festivities – Christmas, Easter, Thanksgiving, and more. But as we delved deeper into our faith, we began to question the origins and significance of these celebrations. Many of them, we discovered, had pagan roots or were secularized versions of religious events.

Our journey towards biblical observance began with a desire to honor God in all aspects of our lives. We wanted our celebrations to reflect His teachings and not be influenced by worldly customs. After careful study of the KJV, we identified the biblical feasts and festivals that we believed were relevant to our faith:

  • Passover: Commemorates the Israelites’ deliverance from Egyptian slavery.
  • Feast of Unleavened Bread: Celebrates the removal of leaven from their homes, symbolizing the removal of sin from their lives.
  • Feast of Firstfruits: Marks the beginning of the barley harvest, a symbol of Christ’s resurrection.
  • Feast of Weeks (Pentecost): Commemorates the giving of the Holy Spirit to the early church.
  • Feast of Trumpets: A time of introspection and preparation for the Day of Atonement.
  • Day of Atonement: A day of fasting and repentance, seeking forgiveness for sins.

  • While we may miss some of the familiar traditions of the past, we have found a greater sense of purpose and fulfillment in our new way of life. Our hope is that our story will inspire others to consider the significance of their own celebrations and to seek a deeper connection with God through biblical observance.Feast of Tabernacles: Celebrates the Israelites’ dwelling in temporary shelters during their journey in the wilderness, a symbol of our temporary life on earth.

  • Transitioning to a holiday-free life has been both challenging and rewarding. We’ve had to learn new traditions, adjust to societal expectations, and explain our choices to others. But the benefits far outweigh the difficulties. Our focus on biblical celebrations has deepened our connection to God and His Word. It has also brought us closer together as a family as we share in these meaningful experiences.
