What are three objects you couldn’t live without?

By Nikki & Snatcher | March 2026

What’s up gang! Welcome back to another update from the Wherever We Land crew. If you’ve been following our journey with “Glo,” our DIY van build, you know that nothing ever goes quite as planned. We are currently knee-deep in plumbing, wiring, and figuring out how to make a tiny home on wheels actually feel like home.

After wrestling with fittings, T-connectors, and more trips to the hardware store than we can count [00:00:33], we started thinking: what are the things that actually make this lifestyle possible? When you’re living in a van, every inch of space matters, and every object has to earn its keep.

Our Top 3 Must-Have Objects for Van Life

1. A Reliable 12V Water Pump (The Seaflow 42 Series)

You don’t realize how much you miss running water until you’re trying to build a system from scratch! As we showed in our latest video, we finally installed our Seaflow 42 Series Water Pump [00:15:05]. This 12V beauty is a total game-changer. It’s quiet, corrosion-resistant, and most importantly, it actually works! Getting that first stream of water to hit the sink without a leak [00:37:24] was a “To God be the Glory” moment for us. Without a reliable pump, you’re basically just camping in a metal box. With it? You’ve got a kitchen.

2. Shark Bite Fittings & Plumbers Tape

Okay, this might sound like two things, but in the world of DIY plumbing, they are one inseparable life-saver. Snatcher here—I can tell you, the Shark Bite attachments [00:14:10] saved my sanity. No glue, no mess—just a secure “click” and you’re watertight [00:17:14]. When you’re dealing with a moving vehicle that vibrates constantly, you need connections that hold. Pair those with plenty of PTFE thread seal tape [00:24:52], and you can sleep easy knowing you won’t wake up to a puddle in your galley.

3. The “Mad Scientist” Soldering Iron

Van life requires some serious “freestyling” as I like to call it. When our drain hose wouldn’t fit the water jug, I had to go “Mad Scientist” mode [00:09:18]. My soldering iron became an essential tool, not just for wiring up our 12V battery system [00:32:02], but even for melting custom-sized holes in our plastic water tank lids [00:13:11]. It’s all about versatility! Whether it’s securing electrical connections for our lights or “finagling the bagel” on a plumbing fix, a good iron is non-negotiable.
