What’s a topic or issue about which you’ve changed your mind?
For many years, I attended Sunday worship services, following the tradition I had always known. But something within me began to shift, and I felt a growing desire to understand more about the origins of Sunday worship and what the Bible truly says. During this time, Snatcher encouraged me to seek wisdom and knowledge directly from the Bible, reminding me that God’s Word is the ultimate authority in our lives.
As we studied together, we came across Exodus 20:8-11 in the King James Bible, where God commands:
**“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy. Six days shalt thou labour, and do all thy work: But the seventh day is the sabbath of the Lord thy God: in it thou shalt not do any work, thou, nor thy son, nor thy daughter, thy manservant, nor thy maidservant, nor thy cattle, nor thy stranger that is within thy gates: For in six days the Lord made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that in them is, and rested the seventh day: wherefore the Lord blessed the sabbath day, and hallowed it.”**
As I read these words, it became clear that the seventh day—Saturday—was the day God set apart for rest and worship. I had grown up believing Sunday was the “Lord’s Day,” but as Snatcher and I continued to explore the Scriptures, we realized something significant: Sunday is actually the first day of the week, not the seventh. This distinction matters because God specifically hallowed the seventh day, not the first.
We also studied Matthew 12:8, where Jesus says, **“For the Son of man is Lord even of the sabbath day.”** This verse reinforced that the Sabbath, not Sunday, holds ongoing significance. Jesus acknowledged the importance of the Sabbath, and it made us reflect on how traditions like Sunday worship had been adopted over time, even though they weren’t part of God’s original command.
Since embracing the Sabbath, Snatcher and I have set aside Saturdays as a day of rest, reflection, and worship. We study and seek God’s Word together, deepening our understanding and connection to Him. This shared practice has brought us closer to each other and to God, allowing us to truly honor His command to rest on the day He sanctified.
The shift from Sunday worship to observing the Sabbath has been a profound spiritual journey for us both. By honoring the true seventh day, we’ve found greater alignment with God’s Word. If you’ve ever felt a pull to examine these practices, I encourage you to dig into the Scriptures and see for yourself how the Sabbath is a beautiful gift from God, one that He blessed and made holy from the very beginning.
