How much would you pay to go to the moon?
When the buzz about space travel and moon vacations comes up, I get it. The idea of seeing Earth from a million miles away is thrilling—but right now, it’s not for me. Why shell out for a moon mission when I haven’t even scratched the surface of what’s here on Earth? I still have plenty of ground to cover in my own backyard, and honestly, camping here feels like more of an adventure.
For starters, I can’t imagine being on the moon and not having that grounding, earthy smell you get when you pitch a tent in a forest or settle in by a stream. Sure, the moon’s got dust, craters, and maybe some scientific allure, but where’s the charm in that? No crackling campfire, no rustling leaves, and definitely no sound of a babbling brook lulling me to sleep.
We’ve got so much variety on this planet—rivers, mountains, forests, beaches, deserts—all waiting to be explored. Each camping adventure I have with Snatcher feels like uncharted territory. It’s my chance to breathe in landscapes that are new to me and feel the soul of nature. Plus, here, I have a front-row seat to sunsets and sunrises that light up the whole sky, not to mention the stars above. Do I really need a view of Earth from the moon to feel the vastness of creation? I’m not so sure.
Our Earth still has mysteries waiting for me, some of them just around the corner, in places we can hike to or drive to in our trusty tent. And let’s be real: there’s something deeply satisfying about looking up at the night sky, knowing that each of those stars can inspire adventure right here at home.
For now, I’ll take the call of the wild over the call of space. The moon can wait. Right here, Earth is calling me back to its trails, campsites, and quiet corners—no space helmet required.
