Beach or mountains? Which do you prefer? Why?

In our family, there’s a delightful tug-of-war when it comes to planning camping trips. I’m enchanted by the peaceful majesty of the mountains, while Snatcher’s heart is captivated by the allure of the beach. For me, the mountains are a retreat into quiet beauty. For Snatcher, the beach is a playground of activity, and his love for fishing at the ocean makes it all the more special.

This difference in our preferences has become a blessing. It means our camping adventures throughout the year are wonderfully varied, letting us experience the best of both worlds. Let me share the unique joys of camping in these two stunning environments—and how we’ve learned to cherish them both.

The Allure of Mountain Camping

There’s something magical about mountain camping. Waking up to the cool, crisp air, the earthy scent of pine trees, and the soft rustle of leaves feels like stepping into a sanctuary. For me, the mountains are a place where time slows down and God’s presence feels closer.

Hiking is always a highlight. Whether it’s discovering a hidden waterfall, standing at a panoramic overlook, or spotting deer grazing in the distance, the journey is as fulfilling as the destination. Mountain camping offers a stillness that nourishes my soul.

At night, the mountains put on a dazzling show. The stars blanket the sky, twinkling brighter than anywhere else. Sitting by the campfire, wrapped in a cozy blanket, I feel an unmatched sense of peace, gratitude, and connection to creation.

The Charm of Beach Camping

For Snatcher, the beach is where his spirit comes alive, especially when he’s fishing. When we camp near the coast, he can’t wait to cast his line into the ocean. Whether he’s standing knee-deep in the surf or perched on a pier, fishing is his happy place—a mix of anticipation and relaxation as he waits for the tug of a bite.

There’s a special joy in watching him reel in a catch, his face lit up with satisfaction. And when he brings his catch back to camp, we cook it over an open flame, savoring the freshest seafood imaginable. Those meals, shared under a setting sun, are some of my favorite moments at the beach.

Of course, beach camping offers so much more. Morning walks along the shore, with the waves gently lapping at our feet and the salty breeze in our faces, feel like a reset for the soul. At night, the sound of the ocean is like a lullaby, a constant reminder of God’s eternal presence.

Balancing Both Worlds

Our love for different landscapes has created a rhythm in our camping adventures. We plan trips to both the mountains and the beach, ensuring we both experience the places that bring us joy. In the mountains, Snatcher joins me in savoring the solitude and stillness. At the beach, I find happiness in his excitement, whether he’s fishing, building a campfire, or simply relaxing by the waves.

This balance has deepened our relationship. It’s a testament to the love we share—not just for each other but also for the incredible diversity of God’s creation.

The Best of Both

Mountains or beach? I could never choose just one. The mountains offer peace, the beach brings energy, and both are filled with God’s handiwork. Together, they reflect the beautiful balance in our marriage: two unique individuals united by a shared love of exploring the world around us.

So, whether we’re hiking through forest trails or Snatcher is fishing at the ocean’s edge, we’re creating memories that celebrate our love for each other, for nature, and for God.

Do you prefer the mountains or the beach for camping? And do you have a favorite activity, like Snatcher’s fishing, that makes those trips even more special? Let us know in the comments! We’d love to hear your stories.
