Who would’ve thought that we, two city-dwelling couch potatoes, would be knee-deep in sawdust and foam insulation? Well, fast forward to 2024, and here we are, transforming a 2021 Dodge Ram ProMaster into our cozy, mobile home.
A Crash Course in Carpentry
We’ve always been more comfortable with takeout menus than toolboxes, but van life has a funny way of pushing you out of your comfort zone. Our latest DIY project? Insulating and laying a subfloor. Sounds simple, right? Well, let me tell you, there’s a lot more to it than meets the eye.
We opted for Birchwood plywood for its strength and durability, and FOAMULAR ngx 150 for its superior insulation properties. Armed with these materials and a whole lot of determination, we dove headfirst into the world of carpentry.
Lessons Learned (the Hard Way)
Of course, our journey hasn’t been without its challenges. We’ve learned the hard way that measuring twice and cutting once is actually good advice. We’ve also discovered that power tools can be both incredibly useful and incredibly dangerous if not used correctly.
But through all the mishaps and mistakes, we’ve found a newfound appreciation for the satisfaction of a job well done. There’s something truly rewarding about seeing our van slowly but surely take shape.
The Future of Our Van Life Adventure
As we continue our van life journey, we’re excited to tackle new challenges and learn new skills. From plumbing and electrical work to interior design and cooking in a tiny kitchen, we’re embracing the adventure one step at a time.
We’re also eager to share our experiences with others who are considering van life. Whether you’re a seasoned RV enthusiast or a complete newbie, we’re here to offer advice, support, and maybe even a laugh or two.
So, join us on this wild ride as we transform our ProMaster into a home on wheels. Stay tuned for more updates, tips, and tales from the road!
