Describe an item you were incredibly attached to as a youth. What became of it?
As a little girl, I had a deep attachment to a doll named Keyona. She was more than a toy; she was a companion, a confidante, and a source of comfort during my early years. I loved her fiercely, dressing her in different outfits and taking care of her as if she were my own child. Keyona had soft yarn hair, and I remember the day I accidentally pulled it all out. Instead of discarding her, I found a solution: I gave her one of my crocheted hats to wear. To me, she was still perfect, and I promised myself that one day, I would name my daughter Keyona.
Life, as it often does, had other plans. When God blessed me with three beautiful daughters, I chose different names for them. Yet, the memory of that doll never faded. Keyona, in her own way, prepared my heart for the love and nurturing that would later define my role as a mother.
Looking back, I see how Keyona was a source of comfort for me before I truly understood the ultimate comfort that comes from the Lord. She was there for me in moments of loneliness and imagination, filling my days with joy and companionship. Though I don’t know what became of Keyona, I cherish the lessons she taught me about love and care.
Today, I have something far greater than a doll: I have my real-life, beautiful “baby dolls.” My daughters are the fulfillment of a blessing I could not have imagined as a child. They know the Lord, and I pray daily that they continue to grow in His grace and wisdom.
Keyona was a small, sweet chapter in my life, but she led to a much greater story—one filled with love, faith, and the immeasurable joy of being a mother. God, in His infinite wisdom, gave me exactly what I needed, and I will forever be grateful.
