What is your favorite animal?
I’ve never really had a favorite animal. It’s not that I don’t appreciate them—quite the opposite, actually. I find beauty, intrigue, and wonder in all creatures. Whether it’s a graceful deer peeking through the forest, the haunting call of an owl in the distance, or even a chipmunk scurrying around a campsite, animals in their natural habitats are a sight to behold.
One of the many joys Snatcher and I find in camping is encountering these creatures from afar, of course. There’s something about observing animals in the wild that reminds me of the majesty of God’s creation. Each one, no matter how small or seemingly insignificant, serves a purpose. They’re a reflection of God’s creativity and His attention to detail.
During our past camping trips, we’ve had some unforgettable wildlife moments. I remember the time we spotted a family of raccoons late one night, their tiny paws moving quickly as they foraged near the edge of our campsite. Or the time we sat silently watching a hawk circle above us, its wings outstretched against the blue sky. These moments are gifts—reminders to pause and take in the world around us.
As we work on converting our van, *Glorious* (or Glo, as we like to call her), into the ultimate camper van, I can’t help but look forward to the adventures ahead. Once she’s ready, we’ll be back out on the road, exploring new places and encountering even more of God’s incredible creatures. I imagine parking Glo in a quiet forest, stepping out with a cup of coffee in hand, and hearing the rustle of leaves as squirrels dart from branch to branch.
While I might not have a specific favorite animal, I do have a deep love and respect for them all. They remind me of the peace and simplicity of nature—things that camping has taught me to cherish.
Whether it’s a bear spotted from a safe distance or a curious bird perched on a tree branch nearby, each animal adds something special to the camping experience. Until Glo is ready to hit the road, I’ll be dreaming of those encounters, grateful for the memories we’ve made and excited for the ones yet to come.
Here’s to the wild, wonderful creatures that make our camping adventures even more extraordinary. What’s the most fascinating animal you’ve spotted while exploring the great outdoors? Let me know—I’d love to hear your stories!
Hallelujah for God’s Creation,
Nikki
