Where can you reduce clutter in your life?
Lately, I’ve been reflecting on the concept of clutter—not just the kind that takes up physical space but the clutter that resides in my heart and mind. This journey of decluttering has become more than just a way to tidy my surroundings; it’s a spiritual and emotional process that has drawn me closer to God and helped me create a more peaceful and intentional life.
The first step in my decluttering process has been internal. I’ve realized that holding on to anger, resentment, or unforgiveness clutters my heart and mind in ways that weigh me down. Forgiving those who have wronged me is not always easy, but I’ve come to see it as a necessary step toward freedom. When I let go of bitterness and release the hurt, I’m no longer bound by it. Instead, I’m choosing to honor God by walking in His grace and mercy. After all, He forgives me daily, and extending that same forgiveness to others is a way I can reflect His love.
This act of forgiveness has been transformative. It’s like clearing out a room that’s been overrun with things I no longer need. Suddenly, there’s space—space for joy, peace, and clarity. My heart feels lighter, and my mind is no longer bogged down with the emotional “clutter” that once held me back.
The second step in my decluttering process has been external—letting go of physical items that no longer serve a purpose or add meaning to my life. I’ve been sorting through my belongings with a critical eye, asking myself whether each item truly brings value or joy. If it doesn’t, I let it go. This process has been freeing, not just in terms of creating more physical space but also in helping me shift my mindset toward intentional living.
This approach is something I plan to carry into every aspect of my life, including our van conversion. With space at a premium in Glo, clutter simply isn’t an option. Every item we bring into the van will need to have a purpose or add genuine value to our travels. By reducing physical clutter, we’ll be able to fully enjoy our space, focus on the experiences we’re creating, and keep our lives simpler and more fulfilling.
Decluttering, both inside and out, has taught me to focus on what truly matters: my relationship with God, my family, and living a life of purpose and intention. It’s a daily process, but each step brings me closer to the peace and clarity I seek.
As I continue this journey, I’m reminded of the words in Matthew 6:19-21: “Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal: But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal: For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
By letting go of what doesn’t matter, I’m making room for what does. Hallelujah for this journey and the lessons it brings!
Here’s to a clutter-free life, inside and out!
