What Olympic sports do you enjoy watching the most?
Every four years, the world gathers to watch the greatest athletes compete in the Olympic Games. And every four years, I find myself scrolling through the channels, realizing that there isn’t a single Olympic sport that truly captures my attention. Don’t get me wrong—these athletes are incredible, their dedication is unmatched, and the games are a global spectacle. But if I had to sit and watch an event from start to finish? I’d probably pass.
Now, if camping were an Olympic sport, that would be a game-changer. Imagine the thrill of watching elite campers from around the world compete in wilderness challenges. Instead of speed skating or synchronized diving, we’d see contests like “Fastest Tent Setup,” “Ultimate Campfire Cooking,” and “Survival Shelter Showdown.” I’d be glued to the screen, cheering for the competitor who can start a fire with just a flint and some damp twigs or cook a gourmet meal over an open flame.
The event could even have different categories—primitive camping, car camping, and the ultimate challenge: off-grid survival. Athletes would be judged on their ability to pitch a tent in record time, navigate trails without GPS, and keep a cooler full of food safe from raccoons overnight. Picture an international showdown where competitors purify water from a river, build a sturdy lean-to in a rainstorm, and successfully avoid being woken up by a bear sniffing around their camp.
And let’s not forget the storytelling event—because what’s camping without a good fireside tale? Contestants would have to spin the most captivating, spine-tingling campfire story, complete with dramatic pauses and unexpected twists.
I know, I know, this will probably never happen (though I think the ratings would be off the charts). But until then, I’ll keep tuning out the Olympics and tuning in to my own adventures, where every camping trip feels like a gold medal-worthy experience.
