Are you a leader or a follower?
In my journey of faith and life, I have come to embrace a paradox that many might find contradictory — I am both a leader and a follower. These two roles do not stand in opposition to each other but instead work together, shaping who I am in my daily walk with Christ, in my interactions with others, and even in how I create content with Snatcher for our YouTube channel, Wherever We Land.
As a leader, I strive to be a living example of a godly woman, as instructed in the book of Titus. I understand that true leadership is about more than giving orders or taking charge. It is about being a role model, showing kindness, speaking wisdom, and teaching by example. I lead by encouraging my family in prayer, guiding young women in their faith journey, and sharing our camping experiences to inspire others to embrace nature and find peace beyond the screen.
When Snatcher and I film our videos, I often take the lead by organizing our shoots, directing scenes, and ensuring our message about God’s creation and faith shines through. However, I am not just a leader — I am also a follower. Snatcher, with his natural gift for video editing and creative storytelling, often directs the flow of our videos. There are times when I must follow his vision, trust his creative direction, and support his ideas. This balance allows our channel to thrive because we both lead and follow in our own ways.
Yet, even as I lead, I am ultimately a follower — a devoted follower of Jesus Christ. This is the foundation of everything I do. I follow His teachings, seeking wisdom from the Bible, which is my guide. I submit to God’s authority and trust in His plan for my life, even when I cannot see the path ahead clearly.
This balance between leadership and followership is a daily journey. Sometimes, leading means having the courage to stand up for what is right, even when it is not popular. At other times, following means surrendering my own will and allowing God to direct my steps. It is a delicate dance, and I am constantly learning how to do it well.
Ultimately, I have learned that the best leaders are those who are first willing to follow. In following Christ, I find the strength, wisdom, and love I need to lead others. I am not perfect, but I am willing, and that is where my strength lies. I am a leader because I am a follower, and I am a follower because I know who leads me.
If you ever wonder how you can lead while following, remember that true leadership begins at the feet of Jesus. That is where I found mine, and that is where I return every day.
