What personal belongings do you hold most dear?

There was a time in my life when my Bible collected more dust than wisdom. It sat on the shelf, pristine and quiet, while I ran to the world for answers, comfort, and direction. But as I’ve grown in my faith and understanding, that has changed completely. Today, my Bible is the most treasured possession I own. Whether I’m camping in the woods, hiking up a trail, or fishing by the water, I make sure I always have it with me—even if it’s in digital form on my phone.

It wasn’t an overnight shift. Like many people, I used to treat the Bible like a backup plan—there for the big questions, but not part of my daily walk. But the more I read, the more I realized how much I was missing. The Bible isn’t just a book; it’s living truth, a guide for every moment, big or small. I’ve learned that it’s not something to turn to only in times of crisis, but something I need close for everyday life.

Now, when we head out for a weekend of camping or explore the great outdoors on a spontaneous fishing trip, I never leave home without my Bible. Sometimes it’s tucked in my backpack, and other times, it’s the app on my phone. Either way, it’s there. It’s become my compass—spiritually grounding me no matter how far we travel from home.

There’s something about being surrounded by God’s creation that makes His Word even more powerful. Sitting by a campfire, listening to the crackle of the flames and the rustle of the trees, I open my Bible and feel a peace that can’t be described. It reminds me that no matter where we land, God is present. His Word speaks in every season, on every mountaintop, and even in every valley.

And while we’re talking about essentials, I have to be honest—there’s one more thing I never leave behind: my lip oil! Call it a small luxury, but I’ve learned I need it to keep my lips hydrated, especially when we’re out in the elements. Plus, you never know when we might have to pull out the camera to record something great or just chat with the Outside Gang. Gotta be camera-ready, even in the wild!

So yes, my Bible feeds my soul, and my lip oil keeps me ready to speak life—on camera or off. Both are now non-negotiables in my bag, no matter where we land!
