What’s the most money you’ve ever spent on a meal? Was it worth it?

When people think about expensive meals, their minds usually go to fancy restaurants, candlelit dinners in big cities, or luxurious vacation resorts. But for us, the most money we’ve ever spent on a meal didn’t happen in a five-star restaurant—it happened under the open sky, during a camping trip, with a fire crackling nearby and the presence of the Lord all around us.

The occasion? Passover and Sabbath meals.

These weren’t just meals. They were moments of obedience, worship, remembrance, and joy. The groceries alone stretched our budget far beyond what we’d normally spend for a weekend camping trip. We brought lamb, fresh vegetables, herbs, juice, and all the special ingredients needed to honor the holy days properly—including the ingredients to make homemade unleavened bread from scratch. We didn’t just want to show up—we wanted to be intentional. We wanted every part of the meal to reflect the reverence and care that these appointed times deserve.

It wasn’t just about the food. It was about honoring the Lord in His creation. Being out in nature—the very world God formed with His hands—gave the celebration an added richness. Each bite felt like worship. Each moment around that table (or rather, picnic blanket and foldable camping table!) felt like a holy gathering where time slowed down and Heaven leaned in close.

Some might think spending that much on a meal, especially while camping, is excessive. But here’s the truth: any money spent in honor of the Lord is never wasted. It becomes more than just a financial transaction—it becomes a spiritual investment.

We didn’t leave that meal full just in our bellies—we were full in our spirits. We had peace. We had joy. We had reverence. We had memories that will never fade. That’s worth more than gold.

So yes, the most money we’ve ever spent on a meal was for Passover and Sabbath. And we’d do it again without hesitation. Because when you’re honoring the Lord, every dollar spent becomes a seed sown into something eternal.

Hallelujah!
