Describe one habit that brings you joy.

It may seem small to some, but one habit I practice every single day—whether I’m home, camping in the woods, or parked somewhere quiet in our van named GLO—is opening up the curtains and letting the light in. That one act of drawing back the blinds each morning feels like opening the door to a new opportunity—God’s opportunity for me to walk in His light.

This habit isn’t just about brightness in the house or van. It’s about welcoming God’s creation into my space and acknowledging,
“This is the day which the Lord hath made; we will rejoice and be glad in it.” – Psalm 118:24, KJV

That first step of letting in the light sets the tone for my day. I might still have dishes to wash, emails to check, or editing work to do for our YouTube channel Wherever We Land, but the light reminds me I am alive, I am loved, and I am surrounded by God’s beauty.

When we’re camping—whether it’s a simple tent setup or a cozy stay in a KOA cabin—the joy grows even deeper. I don’t just open curtains; I unzip the tent or swing open the cabin door and take in the sounds of birds, the rustling of leaves, and the smell of the morning air. It’s a habit that reconnects me to my purpose, which is to walk in truth, share joy, and appreciate the life I’ve been given.

Some people chase joy through expensive things, vacations, or quick distractions. But for me, it comes in daily rituals that bring peace: praising God, saying “I love you” to my husband every morning, and opening up the world around me with a simple pull of the curtain.

Joy isn’t always found in the big moments. Sometimes it’s in the small, consistent ones we commit to with love.
