What have you been putting off doing? Why?

There’s something about the mountains in the fall that always calls to my soul — the crisp air, the golden leaves dancing in the breeze, and the stillness that seems to whisper, “Be still, and know that I am God.”

For years now, I’ve been saying that I was going to make my way up to Grandfather Mountain and cross that famous mile-high swinging bridge. It’s been on my list every autumn, and every autumn, something seems to come up — family plans, a full schedule, or if I’m being honest… just a little bit of fear.

I’ve seen the pictures and videos of that bridge swaying gently between the peaks, and though it looks absolutely breathtaking, the thought of being suspended that high up always gave me a tiny knot in my stomach. Part of me wanted to experience it, while the other part thought, Maybe next time.

But this year feels different.

Something in my heart is nudging me to stop putting it off — to take that drive up the mountain, to breathe in that cool, crisp air, and to finally step out onto that bridge. The leaves are changing, painting the hills in fiery shades of red, orange, and gold — and I can’t help but think that God created this season not only to remind us of His beauty but also of change itself.

Sometimes, the things that scare us most are the very experiences that help us grow the most.

So, I’m choosing to face my fear. I’m going to walk across that mile-high swinging bridge — not just for the view, but for the victory. I want to stand in the middle of that bridge, look out at the sweeping mountain ridges, and feel grateful — not just for the beauty around me, but for the courage within me that only God can give.

Fear can hold us back in so many small ways, but faith? Faith reminds us that we don’t walk alone — even when the bridge beneath us sways.

This season, I’m learning to trust a little more, breathe a little deeper, and say “yes” to the adventures that stretch me. Because sometimes the best way to see God’s handiwork is to step out where your comfort zone ends — and let His creation remind you just how big He really is.

So, here’s to new courage, autumn adventures, and one unforgettable walk across the Grandfather Mountain swinging bridge.
