21 years in the Infantry. Yup, I’ve done a version of tent camping, more like living out of a rucksack. I think it’s called primitive camping now. I’ve done it a few times since, with only what I could carry on my back. It takes field craft that most people don’t learn anymore.

Things like grills and popup out-houses aren’t included. I have gotten soft enough to carry a sleeping bag, mostly because when I was MEDIVAC-ed out, my sleeping bag was sent in my follow-on bags and it was written off. Dehydrated food packs and fishing or trapping where they are allowed cover meals.

I’m not criticizing. Your help is greatly appreciated. I know almost nothing about modern camping and I’m getting old, sleeping on the ground is starting to hurt.

Yes, what you are describing would be more for people who are into survivalism. Nowadays, primitive camping means there is no water or electricity on-site. It is definitely good to learn survival skills. The camping we do is more for relaxing and enjoying the outdoors.
