Tell us about your first day at something — school, work, as a parent, etc.
When Snatcher first suggested a camping trip, I was excited but didn’t quite know what to expect. We packed up our SUV with essentials, ready for an adventure in the mountains. Little did I know, that first night would be one I’d never forget.
As the sun disappeared behind the rugged peaks, I realized just how remote we were. The darkness engulfed us completely — no streetlights, no other cars, just us and the pitch-black wilderness. Every rustle of the wind through the trees made my heart race. It felt like we were the only two people left on Earth.
I tried to calm myself, reminding myself that Snatcher was right there. He’s my rock, my best friend, and somehow always knows what to do. Still, the unknown pressed in too heavily. After seeing my growing unease, he suggested we head back toward civilization, landing us in the well-lit parking lot of a Cracker Barrel. It felt safe, familiar, and surprisingly cozy. We settled in for the night, grateful for the comfort of each other’s presence.
When dawn finally broke, we drove to a peaceful fishing hole nearby. Snatcher set up our propane grill, and together we cooked a hearty breakfast — eggs and bacon on a bagel . The mountain air was crisp, and the soft ripples on the water sparkled under the early morning sun.
We spent the rest of the day fishing, laughing, and enjoying the simple beauty of the outdoors. The stillness that had frightened me the night before now felt calming. It was as if nature itself was gently reassuring me that everything was okay.
Looking back, I realize that first camping trip wasn’t just about the adventure or the beautiful scenery — it was about trusting Snatcher and embracing the unknown together. Even though fear tried to steal the moment, love and laughter won in the end.
Sometimes, life’s best memories come from the unexpected. And thanks to that first night, I learned that home isn’t always a place — it’s being with the person who makes you feel safe, no matter where you are.
