What are your morning rituals? What does the first hour of your day look like?
The alarm clock’s insistent buzz cuts through the quiet darkness. A yawn escapes my lips, and I reach out, fumbling for the snooze button. But then, I remember. Today, like every day, has a rhythm, a purpose that starts before the world fully awakens.
Nikki stirs beside me, a soft rustle of blankets. We don’t say much at first, just a quiet exchange of sleepy smiles. Then, we do the thing we’ve done for years, a simple, grounding ritual. We give thanks.
Not to some abstract concept, but to the God of our fathers, Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob. It’s a connection to thw most high God, something solid, a lineage of faith that stretches back through time. It’s a moment of acknowledging the blessings, big and small, that fill our lives. It’s a reminder that we are not alone.
The words are simple, heartfelt. We don’t always have grand pronouncements or eloquent prayers. Sometimes, it’s just, “Thank you for this day,” or “Thank you for each other.” But it’s genuine, and it sets the tone for everything that follows.
Next, we reach for our Bibles. The pages are crisp and unmarked, as we recently got new Bibles large print ones for myself because it was becoming hard to read my old, regular print size one. But that will not stop us from seeking wisdom and guidance. We read several pages, sometimes its familiar ones, sometimes something new. It’s not about being perfect or pious; it’s about reading the whole word, from beginning to end, connecting to something larger than ourselves. As God is the alpha and the omega, the beginning and the end.
Then, the smell of freshly brewed coffee fills the air. That rich, dark aroma, that first warm sip – it’s a small pleasure, a moment of comfort. With our mugs in hand, we turn to our laptops.
The blog. It’s our little corner of the internet, a place where we share our thoughts, our experiences, our faith. It’s a daily practice, a way to connect with others, to offer a word of encouragement, a moment of reflection. Some days, the words flow easily. Other days, it’s a struggle. But every day, we show up.
And then, the world outside our little bubble starts to intrude. The emails, the phone calls, the demands of the day. It’s time to head to work, to step into the hustle and bustle of life.
But even as we navigate the challenges and responsibilities, we carry that quiet morning with us. The gratitude, the scripture, the shared coffee – it’s a foundation, a reminder of what truly matters.
It’s not a perfect life. We have our struggles, our doubts, our frustrations. But we’ve found that starting the day with intention, with gratitude, with a connection to something bigger, makes all the difference.
Maybe you have your own rituals, your own ways of grounding yourself. Maybe it’s meditation, or journaling, or a quiet walk in nature. Whatever it is, find that rhythm, that practice, that helps you face the day with purpose and peace. Because in the end, it’s those small, intentional moments that shape our days, and ultimately, our lives.
