What are the most important things needed to live a good life?
Introduction
Everyone’s searching for the good life. For some, it’s financial success. For others, it’s health, fame, or fulfilling relationships. I’ve chased many of those things myself, thinking they’d bring peace and purpose. But none of them filled the deepest parts of my soul. Let me be real with you — the most important thing you need to live a truly good life is a personal relationship with the God of our fathers: Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
My Journey to Truth
I didn’t always walk with God. Like many, I was caught up in the distractions of the world — chasing money, influence, and temporary pleasures. The problem was, no matter how much I achieved, I still felt empty inside. It wasn’t until I cried out in my lowest moment that everything changed. That’s when I met the God of my ancestors. Not a distant idea, but the living, present, holy One who made promises to Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob and never broke a single one.
Why the God of Our Fathers?
Why specifically the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob? Because He is a covenant-keeping God. The Bible is not just a book of stories — it’s a living testimony of a God who walks with His people. Abraham was called out of comfort into obedience. Isaac was the child of promise, and Jacob wrestled with God and was transformed. Their lives are a blueprint of God’s grace, guidance, and power.
In my own life, I’ve experienced that same faithfulness. When I trusted Him, He provided. When I was confused, He gave clarity. When I felt weak, He gave me strength. He didn’t promise life would be easy — but He did promise He’d never leave me.
Faith is the Foundation
Faith isn’t about religion. It’s about relationship. It’s waking up every day knowing that you are loved by the Creator of the universe. That He has a plan for your life. That even when things don’t make sense, He’s working it out for your good.
Hebrews 11:6 says, “And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.” I’ve found that the more I trust God, the more peace, joy, and purpose I experience. That is the essence of a good life.
Daily Walking with God
My life changed when I made seeking God a daily habit. Reading the Word, praying, worshiping — these aren’t religious chores. They are lifelines. They are how I stay connected to the Source of all goodness.
There have been moments when I didn’t know how I’d get through the day. But opening the Bible and reading how God was faithful to Abraham or gave Jacob a new name reminded me that He was with me too. He’s not just the God of the past — He’s the God of right now.
Impact on Relationships and Purpose
When God is at the center of your life, everything changes — including your relationships. I’ve become a better partner, a more forgiving friend, and a more focused individual. That’s not because of me, but because of the Spirit of God working in me.
Purpose is no longer about me and my dreams. It’s about serving others and honoring God. Every job, every conversation, every moment becomes sacred when you walk with the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
God’s Promises Are Still Active
The same promises God made to our spiritual forefathers still apply today. He promised Abraham that his descendants would bless the earth. That includes us. We’re meant to be a light in a dark world. We’re called to be a blessing, to walk in truth, and to represent the Kingdom of God.
When I remember that, I walk with boldness. I live with expectation. I know that the God who parted the Red Sea, who sent manna from heaven, and who resurrected His Son, Jesus — is with me now.
Final Thoughts
If you’ve been searching for the secret to the good life, I urge you to look up. The answer isn’t found in success, money, or even other people. It’s found in the living God — the One who introduced Himself to Moses as the God of Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob.
Surrender your heart. Call out to Him. Ask Him to reveal Himself to you. I promise, from firsthand experience, that He will answer. And when He does, your life will never be the same.
